The story

In the light of early May, the pond holds a mosaic of green, bronze, and red. Water slips down the dark rocks, breaking the reflections into small, shifting fragments. The great floating leaves lift their edges above the surface like shallow vessels. Among the smaller pads, a white flower opens toward the light, its brightness gathered again in the water below.
