The Weight of Loops

About this piece
A heavy gray rope forms overlapping coils on weathered paving, surrounded by small orange and dark fallen berries. Strong light picks out the twisted fibers, while shallow focus softens the more distant loops. The rope’s rounded rhythms contrast with the angular joints beneath it, lending an everyday object a sculptural stillness.
The story
On this late-August day, light catches the raised strands of a rope lying at rest. Small fallen berries gather beside its coils and in the seams of the paving, their amber tones warming the gray surface. A dry leaf rests between two lengths, held in a loose enclosure. The eye follows the rope inward, finding another curve wherever it expects an end.
