A deeply furrowed trunk rises along the left edge, while twisted, broken limbs surround an opening onto sunlit woodland. Cool gray wood contrasts with golden light catching the branches, foliage, and grass beyond. The vertical composition draws the eye from the dense foreground textures toward the small sunburst near its center.

The story

Late November light slips between the branches and settles on a patch of green grass. The great trunk stands partly in shadow, its ridges and hollows holding cool gray tones. Overhead, fine bare twigs mingle with leaves against the blue sky. Through the tangle of weathered wood, the clearing glows—a quiet space held open by the limbs around it.
