Massive, weathered tree limbs stretch across the frame, their ridged surfaces enclosing a brilliant sunburst. Cool gray wood and dark rocks contrast with golden light and green undergrowth, giving this densely layered woodland scene a sculptural stillness.

The story

Late November light finds a narrow opening between the limbs and spreads into a bright, many-pointed star. The wood twists across the view, its grain folding around hollows and broken edges. Beneath it, grass catches the gold among rough, shadowed stones. For a moment, the smallest opening in this tangled woodland holds the brightest thing.
