Before the Unfurling

About this piece

A dense cluster of closed, cream-colored flower buds extends on vivid pink tubes, sweeping from the lower left across the frame. Strong sunlight reveals their fine surface texture, while a broad, shadowed green leaf anchors the composition. Shallow focus turns the surrounding foliage into soft fields of color, lending stillness to the radiating forms.

The story

On this late-November day, light gathers along the pale seams of unopened flowers. Their long pink tubes reach outward, crossing and separating above the dark green of a leaf. Behind them, the garden dissolves into patches of brightness and shade. Each closed tip holds its shape in the sun, and the moment rests before any unfolding.
