Leaves Holding Light

About this piece
Clusters of pink and cream flowers rise on slender stems above overlapping, lance-shaped leaves beside a tree trunk. Strong backlighting turns the foliage luminous yellow-green, revealing veins and dark blemishes. The upward view balances this dense botanical arrangement with an open expanse of blue sky and white cloud.
The story
On this November day, sunlight passes through the leaves, bringing their fine veins and weathered edges into view. Small flowers open above them, their pale tips giving way to deep pink centers. The rough trunk stands behind this gathering of delicate stems and broad green blades. Between the leaves, narrow pockets of shadow hold their own against the brightness.
