The story

January light reaches into the opening, catching the chipped edges of the bricks. Within the chamber, shadow gathers in the uneven mortar joints; beyond it, the long wall glows gold. A strip of water reflects the brightness below, and the sea draws a blue line across the distance. At the year's beginning, the view offers a quiet measure of openness: sky, water, and room for the eye to wander.
