About this piece

A brick fort extends along a moat, its repeated openings reflected in gently rippled water. Strong sunlight articulates the masonry, while converging banks lead toward a low footbridge and distant wall. Rendered in black and white, the composition balances architectural weight with the open sky, scattered birds, and leaning palms.

The story

In the early days of January, sunlight fills the moat and picks out the uneven faces of the bricks. The wall recedes in a measured succession of dark openings, each finding a wavering counterpart below. Above the palms, birds trace loose paths across thin clouds. Water softens every line the fort holds firm.
