Where Stone Holds Sky

About this piece
Overlapping natural rock arches span a rugged expanse of orange stone, with green shrubs filling the foreground. Strong sunlight articulates the fractured surfaces, while shadow beneath the larger arch emphasizes its depth. Wispy clouds and tiny figures among the rocks lend movement and human scale to the monumental composition.
The story
September light spreads across the rock, catching its ridges and leaving the hollows dark. Beneath the broad span, a second opening draws the eye farther into the stone. Small figures stand among the broken slopes, almost absorbed by the surrounding orange. The shrubs gather green at the foot of the cliffs, while thin white clouds seem to loosen the sky above.
