The story

September light spreads across the red earth, leaving the hollows of the rock in deep shade. A low arch holds a small opening of sky, while pale clouds sweep above the heavier shapes of stone. At the right, a tree gathers its green foliage around a tangle of weathered limbs. Between tree and cliff, scattered shrubs mark the open ground, each with its own small island of shadow.
