About this piece

A solitary tree rises from a broad outcrop of layered, warm-toned rock, its branching crown set against a saturated blue sky. Strong sunlight defines the stone’s fissures and the texture of the trunk, while scattered white clouds balance the tree’s off-center silhouette. The low viewpoint gives this sparse landscape a quietly monumental presence.

The story

September light falls across the exposed stone, tracing its ledges and shallow cracks. A tree holds its place at the crest, its crooked trunk opening into a broad green crown. White clouds punctuate the blue around its branches, leaving generous stretches of sky untouched. Here, the eye moves slowly between the fine texture of foliage and the long, horizontal seams of rock.
