About this piece

A broad, flat capstone rests on a narrow neck above a stepped tower of red rock. Strong sunlight reveals fractured surfaces and horizontal strata, while distant ridges rise diagonally behind the formation. Set left of center against open blue sky, the tower gives the rugged landscape a quietly precarious focal point.

The story

September light settles across the exposed rock, warming its edges to orange. Above the heavy tiers, a thin slab reaches outward into blue, its small point of support nearly lost in shadow. The eye follows each ledge upward and pauses beneath that overhang. Behind it, long bands of stone cross the slopes, extending the tower’s layered rhythm into the distance.
