About this piece

An empty highway converges beneath a skyline of sheer-sided desert buttes and narrow rock towers. Warm, low light brings out the orange faces and golden roadside vegetation, while the centered composition balances the road’s measured geometry against the irregular forms of the land.

The story

September light settles across the scrub, catching each low tuft in gold. The road stretches forward, its broken yellow line growing smaller until it nearly disappears beneath the rock towers. Roadside signs stand small against the luminous cliffs. Above them, a pale wash of cloud leaves the sky open, and the empty distance holds its quiet.
