About this piece

An upward view through a narrow canyon reveals rippled rock walls enclosing an irregular ribbon of blue sky. Sunlight turns the upper edges brilliant orange and gold, while violet shadows emphasize the finely layered surfaces below. The vertical composition balances the weight of stone with the openness of the sky.

The story

Early September light reaches the canyon's upper edges, brightening each exposed fold. Below, shadow gathers in the grooves, tracing delicate lines across the massive walls. The eye follows a slender opening upward, where blue sky bends between opposing shelves of stone. For a moment, the world seems to consist only of these close surfaces and the light beyond them.
