The story

September light rests sharply on the sandstone, drawing each ridge and seam into view. The foreground rock curves like a slow wave, while three distant buttes hold their separate positions across the plain. Small patches of vegetation stipple the open ground without softening its vastness. The eye travels between stone and sky, finding little to interrupt the distance.
