About this piece

Sculpted sandstone walls rise around a narrow, sandy passage, their fine layers bending into sweeping folds. Light from above illuminates the upper rock in vivid orange, while the nearer walls deepen into burgundy and violet. The vertical composition draws the eye from footprints underfoot toward the luminous heights, balancing enclosure with an upward sense of space.

The story

September light enters the canyon from above, catching the high folds before fading into the passage. Stone seems to gather like heavy cloth, its layered edges holding orange light and violet shadow. Underfoot, overlapping shoeprints interrupt the fine sand with small, familiar patterns. The path turns beyond sight, and the walls keep the next chamber to themselves.
