About this piece

An upward view through a slot canyon reveals sweeping sandstone walls, their fine layers illuminated in orange, red, and violet. Dark foreground rock frames a slender opening of sky, while overlapping curves draw the eye into the luminous depths of the composition.

The story

September light enters through a narrow seam of sky and gathers on the sandstone folds. Orange brightens along the ridges, while the nearest walls hold a deep violet shade. Each band in the rock follows another, bending like a current around an unseen obstacle. Above this enclosed world, the blue remains clear and distant.
