Where Stone Becomes Wave

About this piece
Seen from below, layered sandstone walls sweep around an irregular opening of pale sky. Golden light emphasizes their fine striations, while deep red-brown shadows give weight to the overlapping curves. The enclosing composition lends the stone a flowing rhythm and a monumental stillness.
The story
On this September day, the sky appears as a pale ribbon between folds of stone. Light follows the sandstone’s ridges, drawing gold from each exposed edge while the hollows remain dark. The eye travels along the grain, rising with one curve and descending into another. Above, the narrow opening offers a quiet release from the surrounding weight.
