An upward view through a sandstone canyon reveals sweeping, finely striated walls enclosing a vivid opening of blue sky. Sunlight turns the upper surfaces gold and orange, while lower folds deepen into rose and violet shadow. A pronounced ridge rises from the foreground, lending the enclosed composition both movement and monumental stillness.

The story

September light reaches into the canyon and gathers along its upper curves. Below, the stone folds into shadow, its fine grain visible across surfaces that seem almost soft. A narrow ridge carries the eye upward through rose and rust toward the blue opening. The sky feels briefly held between the walls, a small expanse of freedom above the weight of stone.
