Seen from below, sculpted sandstone walls enclose an irregular opening of pale sky. Light turns the upper edges brilliant orange while recessed surfaces deepen into burgundy and violet, revealing fine bands across the sweeping rock. Converging curves create a composition at once enclosed and expansive.

The story

On this September day, light enters the narrow opening and gathers along the stone's curled edges. Orange surfaces seem to unfold above the darker walls, their fine lines running like grain through carved wood. The eye follows one ridge upward, then slips across the pale sky to another. Within this close enclosure, the distance overhead feels immense.
