About this piece

Seen from below, sculpted sandstone walls enclose a slender ribbon of pale sky. Light illuminates their layered curves in gold and orange, while broad faces recede into muted violet-brown shadow. The vertical composition draws the eye through successive folds, balancing the weight of stone with the openness above.

The story

On this September day, light reaches into the canyon and catches the edges of its folded walls. Fine bands ripple across the stone, brightening where each curve turns toward the sky. Shadow gathers beneath the overhangs, giving the glowing surfaces a deeper warmth. Above, the narrow opening winds between the walls like a quiet path beyond reach.
