The story

December opens with golden light threading through the grove. Across the ground, each trunk extends into a dark line, and the spaces between glow amber. Beyond this shaded enclosure, the water holds a brilliant blue beneath the distant hills. The eye moves slowly from bark to shadow to open water, finding room to rest between the trees.
