The Statue of Liberty rises above its stone pedestal, its green copper surface sharply illuminated against a saturated blue sky. The upward composition leads from tiny visitors at the observation terrace through the sculpted folds of the robe to the golden torch. Broad white clouds soften the monument’s commanding silhouette.

The story

August light settles into the folds of the copper robe, turning each ridge pale green and each recess deep teal. Below, visitors appear as small touches of color along the stone terrace. Clouds gather behind the crown and raised arm, their soft edges meeting the statue’s precise outline. High above the human scale of the pedestal, the golden flame holds the sunlight.
