About this piece

A decorative metal bird spreads a circular fan of blue spheres and larger yellow globes striped in blue against a rough rock surface. Light reveals the crackled texture of the ornaments and the grain of the dark metal, while the close crop carries the radial pattern beyond the frame. Its vivid colors and curled yellow accents lend a playful presence to the subdued stone and fallen leaves.

The story

November draws to a close, and fallen leaves gather around the bird’s slender metal legs. Above them, yellow globes hold the light between their blue bands. The red beak points sideways, a bright interruption against the weathered rock. Nothing stirs in this small display; its exuberance rests entirely in color and shape.
