Green Bearing Light

About this piece

Luminous green palm leaflets cross the frame in broad diagonals, separated by narrow openings onto a soft blue background. Fine veins, brown markings, and small perforations interrupt the repeating structure, bringing the leaf’s irregular surface into focus.

The story

I moved close enough for the leaf to fill the frame, letting the wider scene fall away. Light passed through the green in uneven bands, revealing fine lines and small brown marks I might otherwise have overlooked. Through a few tiny holes, the blue beyond became part of the leaf itself. I wanted to keep those interruptions visible: the places where a strong, repeating pattern gives way to something less predictable.
