The story

Late July light gathers on the white terrace, bright around the boat’s worn hull. Rope hangs over the bow, and loose timber fills the space where a passenger might sit. The oars reach outward but meet only sunlight and shadow. Across the rocky slope, white buildings cluster along the skyline, their small geometries set against the rough bands of stone. Here, the boat holds still, its faded yellow almost the color of the dry earth beyond.
