Behind Pale Panels

About this piece

A pale painted double door fills the vertical frame, its four glazed openings revealing colorful patterned curtains. Strong sunlight catches the coarse surrounding stucco and dark tiled threshold, while the recessed woodwork remains largely shaded. Repeated rectangular panels lend the closed entrance a measured, intimate stillness.

The story

Late July light rests against the rough walls, picking out their small ridges and hollows. Within the recess, pale paint thins over the grain of the door. Behind the glass, colored shapes soften the strict arrangement of wooden panels. The dark handle stays still, and the curtains keep the room beyond out of sight.
