Beneath Electric Towers

About this piece

A white muscle car dominates the foreground beneath towering billboards, with pedestrians and pedicabs gathered along the street. Saturated blue, red, and yellow light washes across the bodywork and pavement, while crosswalk stripes lead into the densely layered scene. The low viewpoint lends the nighttime traffic a monumental presence.

The story

On this August night, the street seems to borrow its daylight from the screens above. Color travels down the facades and gathers on the white hood of a car. People in short sleeves cluster at the crossing, while a pedicab rider holds his handlebars beneath the advertisements. Between the dark towers and the broad painted stripes, the city leaves scarcely a surface untouched by light.
