Golden-green grasses fill the foreground beneath a rounded ridge, while a distant mountain rises above a horizontal band of cloud. Strong directional light defines the folds of the hillside, and the road along the left edge gives human scale to the expansive landscape. Saturated greens and an open blue sky lend the scene a luminous clarity.

The story

Late November finds the hills bright with green, their grasses tipped in gold. Light catches the fine seed heads and leaves the hollows of the ridge in shadow. Along the fence, slender posts mark a measured line through the spreading grassland. The road narrows toward the distance, where cloud gathers beneath the mountain and softens the boundary between earth and sky.
