About this piece

Golden grass covers rolling hills scattered with broad-canopied trees and exposed gray rocks. A wire fence cuts diagonally across the foreground, its repeating posts drawing the eye through the sunlit terrain. The expansive blue sky balances the textured ground, giving the rural landscape an unhurried stillness.

The story

July opens across the hills in a sweep of dry gold. Along the fence, fine grass stems crowd together while the dark posts mark a measured passage through the field. Beyond them, green tree crowns hold small islands of shade. The eye follows the shallow valley toward distant trees, then returns to the bright, brittle tangle close at hand.
