The story

Beyond them, bright kayaks punctuate the narrow channel beside the dock, where a small shelter reflects in still water. Across the lake, houses rest at the foot of the forest, dwarfed by the long rise of the ridges. Summer feels spacious here, with room between the waiting boats and the far shore.
