About this piece

Red rock cliffs extend across the horizon, balanced by a broad, isolated butte on the right beneath an expansive blue sky. Warm directional light reveals the rock faces and their deep vertical grooves, while motion blur stretches the foreground scrub into bands of green and gold. The composition holds distant geological stillness against the immediacy of passing ground.

The story

September light rests on the red stone, drawing narrow shadows into its folds. Near the ground, green and gold brush streams into soft streaks, giving the desert a fleeting rhythm. The distant butte holds its shape against the open blue. For a moment, the eye follows the rushing foreground, then settles again on stone.
