About this piece

Undulating sandstone walls enclose a narrow slot canyon, their fine layers illuminated in orange, crimson, and violet. A pale shaft of sunlight descends through the central opening, drawing the eye into shadow and giving the vertical composition a hushed, monumental presence.

The story

September light enters through a slender opening and rests on the folded stone. Along the walls, thin bands curve like seams in heavy cloth, passing from fiery orange into violet shade. Small suspended specks catch the light above the dark passage. Within this narrow enclosure, the day becomes a bright ribbon, and the rock holds its edges.
