A crimson flower, its petals tightly folded, projects from a burgundy stem threaded with smaller buds and veined leaves. Shallow depth of field softens the surrounding vegetation into luminous yellow-green, emphasizing the flower’s ridged texture and the stem’s ascending diagonal.
The story
I was drawn to the red stem before I noticed the flower. It crossed the green like a fine line of ink, carrying small buds and leaves at uneven intervals. Moving closer, I found the folded petals held more detail than I could see from a distance: creases, bright edges, pockets of shadow. I framed the flower against the softened vegetation, leaving room for that vivid green to surround its compact, gathered shape.
