A central sunburst breaks through a dense lattice of woodland branches, setting crimson foliage against a saturated blue sky. Dark trunks anchor the composition, while scattered light and red lens flare draw the eye across the fallen leaves.
The story
I framed the sun between the trunks, where the branches left a small opening to the sky. Around that bright point, the woods became a pattern of dark bark and red leaves, each catching a different measure of light. I kept the fallen limb and the scattered leaves in the frame; they gave the brilliance somewhere to settle. What held me was the contrast: so much color in a forest already opening toward bare branches.
