Mike Gedj’s elevated beach photograph traces a diagonal shoreline between pale sand and turquoise water. Repeating blue canopies and bright orange umbrellas lend structure to the scattered beachgoers, turning a crowded seaside scene into a study of color, scale, and rhythm.
The story
From above, I watched the beach become a loose arrangement of blues and oranges. Beneath each umbrella, a small world carried on; along the water, those separate worlds briefly crossed. I framed the shoreline as it slipped between the chairs and the swimmers, its white edge continually changing. What held my attention was the contrast: the careful rows on the sand, and the sea refusing to repeat itself exactly.
