Seen from behind, a yellow vintage-style car anchors a panoramic expanse of turquoise water and blue sky. Its rounded bodywork, roof-mounted boards, and Aloha sign introduce a playful human presence against the low horizon and weathered rock.

The story

I framed the car from behind, letting the water stretch out on either side until the road seemed to have disappeared altogether. The yellow body and the boards above it held their own against that enormous blue. What caught my attention was the pause implied by the scene: a vehicle made for movement, standing at the edge of somewhere it could not go. I wanted the photograph to stay in that pause.
