An Arc of Green

About this piece

A looping tendril draws a fine green line above richly colored foliage. Selective focus reveals the textured surfaces of young vine leaves and the scalloped edge of a larger purple leaf, while the surrounding growth dissolves into burgundy shadow.

The story

I was drawn to the thin green curve suspended above the darker leaves. Against the broad purple foliage, it seemed almost weightless, a line with room to turn. I framed the smaller leaves beside the red edge of their larger neighbor, letting the rest of the growth fall softly out of focus. What held me there was the contrast in scale: a delicate reach crossing a world of heavy color.
