Backlight reveals fine veins within broad leaves, turning their surfaces into translucent fields of crimson, amber, and green. Deep shadows and purple stems anchor the composition, emphasizing the folds and overlapping edges of the foliage.
The story
I looked upward through the leaves, drawn to the way light passed through some surfaces and stopped at others. From this angle, the foliage nearly filled the sky. Each shift in overlap changed the color, from bright amber to a red so deep it approached black. I framed the stems rising through the center, leaving only small openings to the sky beyond, and let the leaves hold the light.
