Translucent turquoise water folds beneath a crest of white spray, filling the frame with the textures of breaking surf. Beyond the wave, a dark rocky outcrop and distant mountain slopes provide a still counterpoint to the water’s movement.

The story

I watched the blue water rise until light began to pass through its face. For a moment, the wave held a deep turquoise hollow beneath the spray, and I followed that curve with my camera. The mountains beyond remained faint and still. I wanted to hold the brief interval when the water was both a solid wall and something transparent, just before its shape disappeared into foam.
