The story

I watched the water gather color as it rose, a narrow band of turquoise deepening beneath the foam. Beyond it, the rocks held their dark outline against the mountains. I framed the moment when the curling wave and the rising spray seemed to answer each other, one folding inward, the other scattering into light. What drew me was that brief contrast: the sea changing shape everywhere, the land appearing entirely still.
