About this piece

Seen from below, a fighter jet cuts a rising diagonal across a pale, cloud-streaked sky. Its blue-and-white surface patterns echo the surrounding atmosphere, while the sharply defined wings and twin exhausts give the composition its sculptural weight.

The story

I followed the aircraft through the viewfinder as its underside turned toward me. For a moment, the blue and white markings seemed to borrow their colors directly from the clouds, making the machine both distinct from the sky and strangely part of it. I held the frame around that diagonal, leaving room ahead of the nose. What stayed with me was the contrast between those hard edges and the softness beyond them.
