About this piece

Two U.S. Air Force jets point left across a saturated blue sky, one inverted above the other in a near-mirrored arrangement. Bright light defines their white fuselages and red accents, while dark undersides lend weight to the balanced composition. With no horizon visible, the image turns aerial motion into a study of poise and precision.

The story

In this January frame, blue fills the space where a horizon might offer its bearings. One aircraft turns its canopy downward; the other holds its canopy toward the light. Red noses point along the same invisible line, and the patterned tails nearly meet in the picture. For a moment, speed gives way to the quiet geometry of two machines held in balance.
