About this piece

Two aerobatic jets form a near-mirrored pair above the ocean, their red, white, and blue markings set against a clear sky. Below the level horizon, scattered boats and slender wakes provide a quiet counterpoint to the precision of flight.

The story

I followed the two jets as they crossed the open blue, watching the narrow space between them. One flew inverted beneath the other, turning their silhouettes into something almost symmetrical. Below, boats scattered across the water gave the scene another scale, their wakes tracing slower paths. I framed both worlds together: the exactness of the pair overhead and the loose constellation of vessels beneath them.
