A gull hangs above the horizon, its patterned feathers sharply defined against a nearly white sky. Below, softly focused bands of blue water and breaking surf contrast with the precise, sweeping arc of its wings.
The story
I followed the gull through the viewfinder as it moved out over the surf. Beneath it, the water gathered into uneven bands of blue and white, while the sky offered almost nothing to interrupt its shape. I wanted to hold that small distance between the wings and the horizon. For a moment, the bird seemed suspended between two different rhythms: the restless folding of the sea and the quiet reach of open air.
