A gecko emerges from behind a textured burgundy leaf, its green head and golden throat sharply defined against a broad field of pink. Diagonal foliage and a dark wedge of shadow frame the small reptile, giving its partly concealed presence an arresting clarity.
The story
I found my attention drawn to the narrow edge of a leaf, where a small face interrupted the sweep of pink. Most of the gecko remained hidden; only its eyes and the warm underside of its throat entered the light. I framed the space around it as carefully as the animal itself. In that expanse of colour, the smallest presence became the centre of everything.
