About this piece

An amber sky meets the cool blue shallows of a sheltered coastal inlet, where scattered rocks mark the water’s edge. Mike Gedj frames the bay between a textured foreground and a palm-lined shore, with delicate ripples carrying the warm light toward the viewer.

The story

I framed the inlet from the rocky edge, letting the scattered stones lead my eye toward the last band of orange. Across the water, the palms stood above their wavering reflections, while small figures gathered along the shore. What held me was the change in color: gold near the horizon, blue at my feet. I wanted the photograph to keep both together, the warmth of the sky and the cool weight of the shallows.
