Two weathered steel bridge spans stop short of one another above calm water, their angular trusses resting on concrete piers. A white catamaran sits before the left span, its slender mast contrasting with the broad cloud formations and the pink and lavender palette of sky and sea.
The story
I framed the opening between the bridge spans, letting the distant horizon run through the space where the structure ended. The catamaran sat to one side, small beneath the clouds, its mast drawing a fine line across the ironwork. What held my attention was the contrast: rust and pale water, rigid triangles and clouds without hard edges. I wanted to leave enough room for that quiet space to become the heart of the photograph.
