Sunlight illuminates the layered petals of a magenta water lily above dark pond water. Broad green and bronze leaves surround the bloom, their rounded forms and scattered droplets offering a quiet counterpoint to its pointed petals.

The story

I looked down into the pond and found my attention caught between the flower and its reflection. Above the water, the petals held a brilliant magenta; below, their shapes deepened into shadow. I framed the bloom among the broad leaves, keeping the droplets and small glints of sunlight in view. What drew me closer was that contrast: such intense color resting on a surface that seemed almost undisturbed.
