About this piece

Mike Gedj frames overlapping fans of pointed green leaves, punctuated by coral-pink growth near the upper left. Selective focus separates their fine surfaces and pale edges from the darker background, while a single water droplet catches the light below.

The story

I was drawn first to the pink, a small flare among so many shades of green. Looking closer, I found the leaves unfolding in repeated fans, each pointed tip giving the frame another direction. Then I noticed the droplet resting on a lower leaf. I kept it in the composition as a quiet counterpoint to the bright growth above: one small curve of water among all those long, tapering forms.
